the april 4th art hop is upon us and we can’t wait to experience cowdog productions’ special event easter the show at caffe pacori. Join thor slaughter alongside an incredibly talented cast of entertainers for a one-of-a-kind semi-secular Easter-inspired show that will leave you saying to yourself “dang, there was a lot of dip on that chip.”

I sat down with Thor Slaughter of Cowdog Productions last week to get the download on what the we could possibly expect from this wild production called Easter The Show. I had all kinds of questions, of course. One of the most pressing was: who is this show for? And what is Easter The Show?

Easter The Show is a variety show of sorts, based off the format of The Muppet Show. There will be everything from puppets, to Broadway-worthy skits, short films and even educational punk rock. There’s an emcee, a house band, and a talented cast of performers, all bringing their own flavor and interpretation to the experience.

“Everyone involved is insanely talented.”

Throughout the interview, Slaughter’s enthusiasm not only for the show itself, but also for his collaborators was keenly felt. He didn’t miss a beat in crediting all of the people who are bringing something to the table to make this show come to life. His enthusiasm for the show is infectious.

It’s clear how Thor has found such great collaborators. The first time I met him, his vision was infectious and his drive to see something come to life was inspiring. (Frankly, I was inspired to get involved with Easter The Show myself the first time I heard Thor talk about it.)

“i’ve developed really strong relationships with collaborators and that’s probably what I’m most proud of — that I have people that trust me. I can call someone and be like ‘I want to do a weird Easter event, are you in?’ And people will be like ‘yes.’ so I’m very proud of that, that people think my work is good enough that they want to work together in tandem on it.”

“I want it to be bizarre, and open to everyone.”

“if you weren’t there you’ll just have no idea what it was”

“We are paying homage to these great artists who’ve passed away and doing it in our own way.”

says Dead Rockstars contributing artist Joshua Budich

The first Dead Rockstars show occurred back in 2012 in Eugene, before traveling to San Francisco and then Seattle. This 2026 iteration of Dead Rockstars features some artists from the original show, as well as new ones. Many of whom have been in communication online for years, through the pandemic, and over time, who have yet to actually meet in person. When asked about what he’s most looking forward to about the show, Blunt Graffix artist Matt Dye says he’s looking forward to

“Meeting everyone. Some of the artists are going to attend the show. Some of them I’ve known for over 20 years, but we’ve never met in person… and then meet the fans… in person, because [we’ve] known a lot of these people online for a long time.”

I had a chance to catch up with one of the longer distance artists participating in the show; Joshua Budich, a pop artist based in Baltimore, MD. Budich echoed similar sentiments that Dye did when asked why pop art? and why Dead Rockstars?

“Well the subject matter for the show was something I was already exploring on my own. There seems to be a great tradition in pop art to harken back to heros and musicians and artists who’ve passed away.

The rockstars who shaped our childhoods, our youth, the youth of our parents– those who’ve contributed to the shape and cadence of music as we now know it. Dead Rockstars features over 40 artists from around the country. Whether you’re a concert poster collector, a music or screenprinting fanatic, you appreciate high quality illustration, or you just plain want to spend your Saturday night listening to live music and mingling with artists and art fans – this show is for you.

“when matt came to me and said i’m doing a show called dead rockstars, i, like a lot of the other artists had already been doing homages to musicians especially who we loved and who had passed away. and i think dead rockstars was just an on point and concise name, [albeit] a little morbid… but also it’s the truth.”

In closing I asked Dye if there was anything else he’d want to share about the show and he said:

“Yeah. come see the show!”

Enough said. We hope to see you out there!

The Pinebox Night Market is a new micro-market at Pinebox Collective, 575 Garfield St., hosted by local jewelry artist FRIPP, that was launched in December of 2025.

“The Pinebox Night Market was born out of years of experience at different markets in town and along the West Coast. It’s designed in response to what I wished I was experiencing at markets — more coziness, more connection, less overwhelm, and as a vendor; more manageable hours.”

Bush cited visiting Hong Kong during her past career as a jewelry designer for another brand and the night market that took place there— “There were these two, super narrow, six story buildings that flanked a courtyard. Each story of each building housed a row of about 10 artist studios and gallery spaces. These were all open for visiting, and then down in the courtyard there was a lively table-vending style market that ended with a horseshoe of food and drink vendors. There was dancing, and in the air above the courtyards was a multi-story installation of thousands of golden origami figures that hung in the shape of a goat— it was the year of the goat. I’ve thought of that scene so many times since and it’s totally my inspiration for cultivating a Night Market experience here.”

Pinebox Collective is an ecclectic and charming artist studio and workshop space at the East side of the Warehouse District that is organized by Josiah Martens of Pinemarten Building Co., with additional residents Teal Pulcifer, Adam Junod (Good Creative) and Sarah Bush (FRIPP jewelry, Art Hop).

“What we are creating at Pinebox Collective is an attempt at beating this drum of celebrating art, music and creativity in all forms in community.”

Pinebox Collective is part studio, part woodshop and part creative gathering space. They host a weekly open mic and simultaneous open studio event on Wednesdays, welcoming creatives of all kinds to bring something to work on or bring some words or music to share. Get in touch with them directly at the Art Hop this month!

In this current day where tech is necessary for more or less all artists to make a living, where ai is profoundly present, and where what’s “real” is becoming more confusing— we are also witnessing this opposing force of craving for connection in real life.

“We may be absolutely thrilled to kick up our heels at the end of the evening, [enchanted by the classic country tunes of Emerald City Roadkill] but to be honest the creative nerd in us is perhaps equally as stoked for the interactive blacksmithing demo that is happening during the market.”

Don’t miss Cottage Grove blacksmith Charles Persson’s live blacksmithing demo during the Market (open 4-8PM)! He may even let you take a whack at some red hot steel.

If you haven’t previously checked out Walling and Sons leatherwork, you’re in for a treat. This may be the last wallet you’ll ever need. Find Dan at this month’s Night Market.

this pinebox night market features eleven local artists and craftspeople and is followed by live music and two-step lessons by country music locals emerald city roadkill.

Emerald City Roadkill is a six-piece band from country music’s “Emerald City:” Eugene, Oregon.

An island of electrified country music in Eugene’s sea of bluegrass they play a highly danceable mix of classic and original tunes drawing from honky-tonk, western swing, country blues and conjunto traditions.

On March 7th during the Art Hop before you make your way to the night market, be sure to check out the latest work at Shadowfox (and if country music isn’t your thing— they’ll be closing out their evening with a DJ and firespinning from sundown to late.) Also not-to-miss this month is Wheelhaus Arts! Studio lead and community arts visionary David Placencia is typically showing of the work of his young students (which is delightful in every way) but this month we get to enjoy a show of his work!

We can’t wait to see you out there for another special Warehouse District Art Hop.

Pinebox night market will be operating from 4-8 pm on saturday, march 7th. the night market will make a swift transition to clear the dancefloor and close the night in smooth country serenade by emerald city roadkill beginning around 8:30 pm.

Pinebox Collective is located at 575 Garfield St., Eugene, OR 97402
